In line with a succession plan, the renowned LÓPEZ-EBRI Fachübersetzungen GmbH has been acquired by the Wieners+Wieners/Apostroph Group, a leading German–Swiss provider of high-quality language and translation service.
As a qualified translator with extensive industry experience, the long- standing managing director and daughter of the company founder, Carola López Hänninen-Dessau, runs the company LÓPEZ-EBRI Fachübersetzungen at the Bremen location.
The companies are set to join forces in order to continue their dynamic recent growth and to further expand their market leadership in the DACH region, thus responding to the growing needs of their customers.

Hamburg/Bremen, 20 September 2018 – LÓPEZ-EBRI Fachübersetzungen was founded by Enrique López-Ebri in 1965 and currently employs around 30 in-house translators, revisers and project managers at its location in the Bremen Technology Park by the University of Bremen as well as around 400 freelancers worldwide. Certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 17100 standards, the company specialises in professional translations in the fields of technology, business and law as well as marketing and exclusively works with experienced native speakers. Furthermore, with its own corporate division medDOC®, LÓPEZ-EBRI was able to firmly position itself as a key market leader for translations in the areas of medicine, medical technology, pharmacy, dentistry and dental technology. As chairman of the DIN Standards Committee, Mr López-Ebri played a leading role in establishing the DIN EN 15038 standard for translation as well as developing the new ISO 17100 standard. A central ambition in all of Enrique López-Ebri’s efforts – past, present and future – is the promotion of quality within the translation industry. It was on his initiative, for instance, that Qualitätssprachendienste Deutschland (QSD) e. V. was founded as an association of translation companies committed to the concept of quality.

With a turnover of over 20 million euros, the Wieners+Wieners/Apostroph Group is the market leader for high-quality language services in the DACH region. The Group offers language and translation services in over 70 languages using a network of more than 1,500 validated native-speaker translators as well as highly qualified in-house language experts in both translation and proofreading. Whilst the main customer focus of the Apostroph Group in Switzerland is on the pharmaceutical, medical, chemical, industrial, insurance and financial sectors, Wieners+Wieners mainly serves advertising agencies as well as PR and marketing departments of an extensive portfolio of companies. With around 90 in-house employees, the Group together serves more than 3,500 customers across the DACH region, making it one of the top 50 language service providers worldwide according to a recent study by the research and consulting firm Common Sense Advisory.

Commenting on the business combination, founder and partner Enrique López-Ebri says: ‘Together with Wieners+Wieners/Apostroph Group, we share a love of language and the very highest standards in terms of quality. For this reason, I am convinced that the Group is the ideal partner for LÓPEZ-EBRI Fachübersetzungen and that the company will be in good hands with them.’

Carola López Hänninen-Dessau, managing director of LÓPEZ-EBRI Fachübersetzungen, adds: ‘I am very much looking forward to the new partnership, especially since I already know Wieners+Wieners through work with QSD and am impressed by the professionalism of this translation company.’

Kai-Dominik Weyel, managing partner of Wieners+Wieners/Apostroph Group, comments: ‘We are pleased, and also a little proud, that Mr López-Ebri has chosen us, as he has helped shape the translation industry so significantly over many years. Together with Carola López Hänninen-Dessau and Philipp Meier, also managing partner of Wieners+Wieners/Apostroph Group, we will continue to develop the group of companies in a dynamic business environment. With the combination, we can offer our customers an even wider range of professional cross-national translation solutions. Alongside LÓPEZ-EBRI’s expertise in translations for the medical industry, the company’s full-service DTP department is a very welcome addition. Expert graphic designers with extensive experience in foreign language DTP work are crucial for the efficient and successful turnaround of large and complex translation projects in multiple languages. With LÓPEZ-EBRI at our side, we can now significantly increase the Group’s efficiency and performance in this area as well – a definite plus for our customers!’
